The C Levels: Fluency

At C1, you will be able to use German effectively in your social, academic and professional life. You will also be able to express your thoughts eloquently and use different ways to link ideas together appropriately.

So how hard is the C1 exam? There's no doubt that the C1 exam is difficult, but it's certainly not impossible. I'm someone who still makes grammar mistakes more frequently than I'd like, sometimes uses the wrong words and can't always find the right vocabulary, but, thanks to some good preparation, I managed to pass.

Intermediate B1 to B2 – B1 takes 200 hours and B2 takes approximately 300 hours. Advance C1 to C2 – C1 takes around 240 hours and C2 takes around 240 hours to complete the whole course and become a pro at speaking German.

Many think it is a difficult one. Well, I believe all language is more complex or easier to learn. If you have passion and ready to give enough time, you will achieve the German language proficiency test B2/C1 in 2-3 years.

Anyone who has a fairly high level of language skill goal, such as B2 or C1 as a level, should schedule at least nine to 12 months of daily intensive German courses or a visit to the nearest Studienkolleg (when in Germany) when starting with zero knowledge.

B2 is the first level that means that you can speak really fluent and understand 80% of the situations that you find yourself in repeatedly. You can prepare yourself for the exam and even see a sample of the language level here.

As a rule of thumb, German universities require you to present a proof of upper intermediate to advanced German language skills (level B2/C1) to study in German.

You can definitely and easily reach C1 level within a time frame of 1 year. I completed A1- B1 level in 4 months(4 hours of German class, five days a week). I used to revise the grammar chapters on regular basis, as it would be much easier to build up new sentences. I also used to read some books and online material.

So, how long do you need to learn German if you want to reach this level of fluency? The C2 level exam: Think “very hard” & multiply that by a thousand. The Common European Framework of References for Languages level C2 is one of the hardest possible examinations you can do in any language.

How Does it Work? These levels are classified as A1 for beginners, A2 for elementary, B1 for intermediate, B2 for upper intermediate, C1 as advanced, and C2 as mastery.

In short, finding a job in Germany without speaking German will require you to think strategically about what types of companies to apply to and diversify the ways you learn about and apply to jobs. How long does it take to go from B2 to C2 in German? ›

B2 is reached after around 600 hours of German study from the scratch in a good institute like Goethe Institut. C2 however takes at least 1200 hours. Practically very few institues will provide hyper intensive course of 600 hours in 5 months.

To get from A1 to A2, it typically requires 100-150 hours of guided learning, but it can take 180-260 hours to get from B1 to B2.

How long does it take to become fluent in German A1? According to the Goeth Institut and as mentioned earlier, it takes at least 2-3 months of learning German A1 on a daily basis. Although some of their courses have a weekend option or 3-day weekday lessons.

Of the three different levels DSH-1, DSH-2 and DSH-3, the former is the easiest. When the DSH-2 level is reached (67%), the graduate can enrol in many different courses of study, as this means that he or she is admitted to almost all German universities.

A maximum of 100 points is possible: 75 points on the written exam and 25 points on the oral exam. The exam is considered passed when at least 60 points (60 % of the maximum point score) have been received and all parts of the exam have been completed.

Most masters' degrees require German language level B2 GER of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The minimum grade requirements in German universities may vary depending on the courses, universities etc. However, the minimum grade required for a middle profile course is GPA 2.5, GPA 1.5 for high profile study programs and there are no specific requirements for low profile courses.

C1 Advanced – Level C1

Even if you fail to successfully complete C1 Advanced (CAE), you can still get a B2 level certificate that corresponds to the B2 First (FCE) exam. "Certificate of Professional English Language" is an exam for those who speak English at a very high level.
