So, Where Do You Go from Here?

Some students don’t see attending college as an option after completing high school. However, studies prove that, in this day and age, getting a college degree after high school results in better career options and personal growth.

30 Best of the Best Online High Schools for 2021 (66)

Online colleges offer a much different experience than that of traditional face-to-face classes. Students’ interest in online grew exponentially, and reputable schools have embraced this innovation to draw in and accommodate more students. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, one out of six students enrolled exclusively online, and the number of students who took some online courses grew by 5.7%. Online education takes as much hard work as traditional on-campus education. In the case of program requirements, online programs have (almost always) the same as the on-site classes.

If you find yourself asking whether going to an online college is a good idea or not, you’re in luck! Here, we give you the best and most practical reasons to prove college education is a real investment:

Better-paying Career Pathways

Post-secondary education means better-paying jobs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, workers who hold a bachelor’s degree earn 64% more than those who only have a high school diploma. Workers who have an associate’s degree earn 18% more than workers without a degree. This only means that college can lead you to higher earning potential. Also, high earnings help you also get more indirect financial benefits.

Broader Network

For those who want to advance their careers, going to college givesnumerous opportunities to do so. This is possible through other people’srecommendations, learning from other professionals, alumni, and educators incollege. Organizations in college help you meet and interact with other peoplewho might be an expert in your field. By connecting to your network, you learnand advance more quickly than just sitting with books by yourself.

Broader Knowledge and Experience

Post-secondary education is a means of gaining knowledge and skillsthat will lead you to your goals. It gives you the ability to perceive thingsas widely as possible, solve more complex problems, write and speak moreeffectively, and even improve your decision-making skills.

Independence in Overcoming Hardships

Personal growth consists of experiences where you learn to overcomeadversity that life throws at you. A college degree does not only teach you howto overcome problems you encounter with your program but also prepares you withreal-life challenges. College requires traits that will help you developthrough stress. Passing tests, completing homework, and research papers willtrain you with necessary life skills like time management, teamwork, and evenresourcefulness. College teaches youthat hard work and discipline are two essential things that make life a littleeasier.

Flexible Time and Schedule

The flexibility that comes with convenience makes online college appealingto students at this age. There are online colleges that allow you to schedule andtake your courses at your own pace. You can take classes anytime anywhere youwant. Most online colleges let you access or review course materials 24/7 orduring your preferred time. You won’t have to worry about missing classesbecause online learning helps you fit your studies with your lifestyle or yourday.

Less cost

Taking an online class means that you save money on a variety of costs like fuel, public transportation, parking, cafeteria meals, expensive hardback books, and housing. It also means you’re only paying for the program credits. The rapid rise in college tuition is inevitable, so online learning is increasingly deemed as the alternative of traditional brick-and-mortar learning.

Work-School Balance

If you’re planning on doing either a full-time or a part-time job whileattending school, then you should take the opportunity of getting into onlinecollege. You can be in the class at any time you want. Juggling work andfull-course load could be burdensome, but online college can help ease some ofthe pressure or intensity. You can carve up your study sessions and arrangeyour schedule to accomplish both your work and study goals daily.

Broaden your perspective by gaining greater access!

When it comes to higher education, not every aspect of it should be examined in terms of financial gain or convenience. Quality education truly matters. You can access a collection of comprehensive course materials with just one tool: the internet. The internet gets an edge when it comes to the availability of prestigious lectures from other experts living across the country or the other side of the world. You also get to interact with different people or chat with colleagues/instructors without taking so much of their time.

The FAFSA FAQ: What It Is and How To Apply

30 Best of the Best Online High Schools for 2021 (68)

Wondering if you know enough about FAFSA? How does it work? How do you apply for it when you’ve decided you’re going to college? There are numerous questions about it. College tuition has been increasing from year to year. Financial aid covers expenses like tuition and fees, books, and supplies. Students going to college must find ways to lessen the burden of the cost. One of the best ways is to accomplish FAFSA.

Financial aid falls between two broad categories: Need-based aid and Merit-based aid. Need-based aid is determined by your family’s ability to fund college (calculated by FAFSA), while merit-based aid is given to students for their exceptional talent or academic achievement.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an official form you fill out to see if you are qualified for financial aid. FAFSA administered by the US Department of Education, and the results are sent to your college or university. Each year, they give out more than $150 billion in financial aid such as loans, grants, and work-study programs. Prospective or current students must complete the form to have their share of these funds.

How does FAFSA work?

Every student is encouraged to apply for federalstudent aid. However, not everyone’s application is approved. There are somebasic requirements students need to comply with. Also, the amount of funds youare eligible for depends on a lot of factors.

How do you become FAFSA qualified?

According to the Federal Aid office, student applicants must meet these individual requirements and eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a US citizen or an an eligible non-citizen (green card holder or permanent residency holder)
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Must have a valid Social Security number
  • Be registered with Selective Service
  • Be accepted for enrollment as a regular student in an eligible program
  • Be enrolled at least halftime to be qualified for Direct Loan funds
  • Have a high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Completed certification statement on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

What are the Types of Federal Student Aid?

GRANTS are often called “gift aid.” These are the type of aid that does not have to be repaid and are often needs-based.

Types of Grants

  • FederalPell Grants – are awarded based on only on student’s financial needs. Thistype of grant is available for undergraduate students enrolled either full- orpart-time.
  • FederalSupplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) – helps low-incomeundergraduate students or those with “exceptional need.” This is also availableto Federal Pell Grant recipients
  • TeacherEducation Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grants – isawarded to students who plan to become a teacher. This program requires you toenroll in certain classes and do a specific job, so the aid remains a grant andnot turn into a loan
  • Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants – is available to students who lost their parents or guardian as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan. However, this grant has its eligibility criteria.

FEDERAL STUDENT LOANS, which are administered by the government, come with legally binding terms and conditions with fixed interest rates (which most private loans do not offer). This type of aid allows students or parents to borrow money from the federal government, and this aid must be repaid.

Types of Loans

  • Direct Subsidized Loans – available for undergraduate students with financial needs. The amount is determined by the school and may not exceed a student’s financial need.
  • Direct Unsubsidized Loans – available for both undergraduate and graduate students with or without financial need. The amount is determined by the school based on the cost of attendance and other financial aid you receive.
  • Direct PLUS Loans (for parents) – refer to federal loans for parents with dependent undergraduate students. To be eligible for the loan, the parent must have a good credit history.
  • Direct grad Plus Loans – refer to federal loans available to graduate students. Students must be enrolled at least half-time at an eligible program and must not have an adverse credit history.
  • Direct Consolidation Loans – lets students consolidate multiple federal loans and simplify payment terms into one monthly bill. This type of loan also gives you access to additional loan repayments and forgiveness programs.

WORK-STUDY PROGRAM let students fund their education expenses by working part-time while enrolled in school. This program is available to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students with financial need. Students must check with the school to see if the school participates in this program.

How do you Start with the FAFSA Application Process?

FAFSA is available in PDF (https://www.fafsa.ed.gov/options.htm), online (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/), and paper format. Another option is the IOS/Android app called myStudentAid for students using mobile devices.

1. Make sure you have the following documents ready before filling out the form:
